The 2000 Japanese Grand Prix (formally the XXVI Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix XXVI フジテレビ日本グランプリ) was a Formula One motor race held at the Suzuka International Racing Course, Suzuka, Japan on 8 October 2000.
The race was the 16th round of the 2000 Formula One season, and was won by Michael Schumacher for the Ferrari team. It was Schumacher's ninth victory of the season, and extended his lead in the Drivers' Championship. Rubens Barrichello finished second for Ferrari, and Mika Häkkinen finished third for McLaren.
The race was held in dry weather, and the track was dry. The race started at 11:00 AM local time, and lasted for 53 laps. The race was stopped on lap 23 due to a technical problem, and was restarted on lap 26.
The race was notable for several incidents. On lap 1, Giancarlo Fisichella lost control of his Benetton and crashed into the wall at the first corner of the circuit. On lap 2, Heinz-Harald Frentzen spun off at the same corner and had to retire his Williams car.
On lap 7, Jacques Villeneuve lost control of his BAR at the chicane and crashed into the wall. Villeneuve was injured in the crash, and was taken to the hospital.
