Massive Tornado Strikes Houston Suburb, Causing Widespread Damage and Power Outages
At Least 5 Killed, Over 600,000 Without Power
An EF-1 tornado struck a Houston suburb early Wednesday, causing widespread damage and power outages. The National Weather Service confirmed the damage was caused by the tornado, which had winds of up to 110 miles per hour.
At least five people were killed and dozens more injured in the storm. Hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed. The twister ripped through several neighborhoods, uprooting trees, downing power lines and leaving behind a trail of destruction.
The storm also caused widespread power outages, with about 600,000 customers in Harris County without power as of Thursday morning. Local time about 630,000 customers were without power across Texas, most of them in the Houston area.
Emergency crews are working to restore power and clear debris. The National Weather Service is urging residents to stay safe and avoid downed power lines.
