Portugal Cruises to Victory in Euro 2024 Qualifying Match
Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, and an Own Goal Secure a 3-0 Win over Turkey
WEB LISBON, PORTUGAL - Portugal kicked off its Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Turkey at the Estádio da Luz on Friday night. Goals from Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, and an own goal from Kaan Ayhan sealed all three points for the hosts.
Portugal dominated the game from the outset, creating several chances in the opening minutes. Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, finishing off a cross from Diogo Dalot with a cool finish. Fernandes doubled the lead just before the half-hour mark, firing a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Turkey struggled to make any significant impact on the game, and their misery was compounded when Ayhan turned the ball into his own net just after the hour mark. Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa made a handful of routine saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The victory leaves Portugal top of Group I after one match, while Turkey sits bottom of the table. Portugal will be looking to maintain their winning start when they travel to the Czech Republic on Tuesday, while Turkey will be aiming to bounce back at home to Montenegro.
