Shark Attacks Injure Several on Fourth of July
Multiple Incidents Reported in Texas and Florida

Multiple people have been injured in separate shark attacks at Texas and Florida beaches on Independence Day. Authorities are investigating the incidents, which occurred as crowds gathered for holiday festivities.
In South Padre Island, Texas, three people were attacked by a shark around 11 am on Thursday. One person sustained a severe leg injury, while the other two suffered minor wounds. A 21-year-old man was also bitten by a shark in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Officials have not yet identified the species of sharks involved in the attacks. They are urging beachgoers to be cautious and follow safety guidelines, such as swimming in designated areas and avoiding swimming at dawn or dusk when sharks are most active.
The incidents come amid a recent increase in shark attacks in the United States. According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, there have been 16 reported shark attacks in Florida so far this year, compared to 11 during the same period in 2023.
